Last few weeks of summer
One of my favorite times of the year for riding is the fall. Here in Manitoba we have had a fabulous warm spring and summer. Harvest is in full swing. I love the ability to ride across un-worked stubble fields. Round bales make great obstacles to use as the focal point for a perfect circle. A row of bails are make a safe or practicing side passing. I have found that riding beside corn fields can be an opportunity for de-spooking. The inability to see beyond the high corn stocks can be unnerving for the horse, something they need to become used to. Birds tend to feed on the horn husks. The noise and movement of horse and rider tend to cause the to ride up in flocks. One has to be ready for this. Every ride on your horse is a training session for both of you. Have fun.
